The St. Paul University Hospital is a new facility and was recently blessed on January 28.  The Hospital was scheduled to be visited and inspected by the officials of the Department of Health (DOH) in February for review prerequisite to licensing to operate.  The earthquake caused major damages on the first floor of the three-story building.  Inspection by DOH officials has been postponed until early April.

“Construction workers are now working round-the-clock to ready the hospital for inspection on April 1, 2, and 3,” said Sister Lilia Tolentino, Provincial Superior of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres in the Philippines.

“What the hospital badly needs now is cash donation to replace destroyed equipment, furnishings, and facilities, not to mention, corrective measures to strengthen structural foundation.

“We pray that generous persons will help our hospital get back on its feet soon so it can address the health needs of the people of Surigao and the Caraga Region.”

The school suffered minor damages and classes have resumed at St. Paul University.   St. Paul has sent to Surigao a number of St. Paul Sisters and Guidance counselors from some of its Manila SPC schools to help the Sisters of Surigao debrief the students who have been traumatized by the calamity.  In addition, the congregation's Calamity Fund takes care of the relief goods for the construction workers and affected residents of the city.

“May the Paulinian spirit of solidarity and compassion prevail in the hearts of our Paulinian alumni,” said Sister Lilia.

“Let us help St. Paul Surigao!” said Marilyn Abalos, SPMA USA Chair.  “It is important to ensure the safe learning environment in the School and equally important the educational and healthcare services St. Paul University Hospital can provide to the people of Surigao!”
